Ramps Version of Q-Control - NailBuster - 12-14-2016

Here's a neat idea.....It's probably the cheapest and easiest way to build a computer/wifi controller for your smoker....and I mean easy!!

Ramps is an open source hardware platform to control 3d printers (for the DIY market types).

It is designed to do a lot more than I need to control a BBQ smoker but it comes preassembled and cheap...er...inexpensive.  (ramps board is like $5 and atmega 2560 is like $8)

add an esp8266 and you got yourself a wifi/controlled BBQ Smoker controller!!

Here's the photo of my test build:

You Can See full album here:

I've done a few cooks with it....I'm just trying a few different PIDs control code I've found online to see which one will work better....it's cold here in Toronto so BBQ testing is a little 'lite' these days.

I'll update the progress soon...

Got a ramps board today, did you need to use 10k resisters with the probes?

Nope...no need for the resistor.  Standard ramps 1.4 has 4.7k resistors for the thermistors already.  Only thing you'll need is the diode for the fan.

Great to see that you're trying out the ramps version....

Are you going to compile from source to the mega2560 or do you need me to compile you a file to flash?

What kind of build are you doing?  fan/servo? ...  It'd be great if you could start a build thread....with pictures of course Smile.....

keep us posted!

I will start a thread, am going to do a fan/servo and use it on my weber. Havent read anything on doing this yet, just getting ready to start assembly, what is your recommendation on doing compile or flash?
