Yes, the max31855 is their latest chip...  I actually found a low cost breakout board and ordered it a while back.  It's sitting somewhere around here....and it's on my list to support.

the max6675 is really low-cost and cheap and has a great range....  the 31855 is more expensive but the difference is coming down.

Once I add support for the 31855 then it will be another option....

but the $4 chip on mouser i think is an SMD type....  that type of soldering is waaaay too complicated for me (and others)....  but its always good to have options if someone makes a circuit board to support SMD chips....that could be a support small board if we use 2-4 Max31855 smd chips...

the temp range of the max31855 is overkill for the food probes though Smile
